Final Preparations

We are busily getting ready for the team’s early departure for Haiti tomorrow morning (the original departure time on Thursday has been changed to Wednesday). Some are finalizing passports, getting shots, while others are loading medical supplies and buying last-minute items. Many people are coming together to help the team finalize these details and many more are praying for what God has in store.

The concrete block maker arrived at the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Petion-ville on Sunday. We received a message from our friend, Frantz, telling us that the block-maker had been picked up and that “it is so nice.” Pastor Jason and the team can’t wait to see it in person and get their hands on it! “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding.” –Nehemiah 2:20

We have also received word that hundreds of Amazon.com boxes are pouring into Miami from the Haiti Relief Store. Yesterday, we updated the store with an URGENT NEEDS category, so shoppers can see which items are of highest priority for the day. Our top priority items right now are tents to provide shelter for the million+ homeless in Haiti. Tent cities are being set up everywhere and tents are desperately needed. There are three different tents to choose from on our Amazon.com store through The Haiti Project.

Our team will gather at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, California, tomorrow for a 6am take-off. They will be flying on United Airlines to Miami via Denver. They will rendezvous with two more team members from Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Miami. Together, they will drive to Fort Pierce, Florida, to await a Thursday flight with Missionary Flights International to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They are scheduled to fly back to the States on Thursday, February 4, on American Airlines.

Pastor Jason’s sermon from Sunday morning about Haiti and Missional Living is now available on the www.oliveknolls.com homepage in podcast form. As we have contact with our team over the next week, we will update the Haiti January 2010 Blog. Please check back often to see their status.
